fero G5342: ferry. Greek words of the New Testament, illustrated.

English: "ferry" (v.)
Old English ferian "to carry, convey, bring, transport" (in late Old English, especially over water), from Proto-Germanic *farjan "to ferry" (cognates: Old Frisian feria "carry, transport," Old Norse ferja "to pass over, to ferry," Gothic farjan "travel by boat"), from PIE root *per- (2) "to lead, pass over". - from http://www.etymonline.com/

Note: There is no verifying in my sources of tracing the word "ferry" back to the Greek. The history trace stops with Old Norse and Gothic. However, I use it here because the meanings are the same. At any rate, the Greek and the English word are the same and this should help in remembering the Greek word's meaning.
